Entry to China

Posted on December 20, 2011 | Leave a comment

Been a while since my last chat, but hell it has been a busy time! From the 22nd of November till 3rd of December I went over to the wine market mecca called China. What a culture shock, but also an eye opener of note; extremely over populated, not even to mention the primitive toilet facilities!!
I saw the Great Wall, a landmark that I always hoped I would be able to see in my life, and now I can tick this off my bucket list. I met great and interesting people, from wine importers to hotel managers and wine shop owners. I loved their food; we had noodles for breakfast one morning, with beef, whether it was “doggy chow mein” I will never know, but Rikus Neetling from Bizoe Wines had a fight with the chop sticks from the beginning; (“picture”)and what made it even more frustrating was his love for sweet and sour pork; he could just not eat one bite without making a huge mess, I almost fell of my chair more than once laughing at his Afrikaans comments with a couple of swear words thrown in as he tried to get the food to is mouth.
Well I am back, got the business on track here, and I will be writing a lot more about China with loads more photos to see.

Bushpig Chenin Blanc 2010 Released

What a rollercoaster ride of a month! Selma Shiraz is off to Sweden and will hit the shelves of Sweden soon. The wine developed very well in the bottle over the past month and I am sure that it will keep on developing over time and ensure plenty of flavours and complexity.
The Bushpig Chenin Blanc 2010 is finally labelled and ready to be sold guys and girls! I showed the wine on a few tastings last week and orders came in one by one. This wine is a true natural wine. By saying that I mean the following: Naturally fermented, no acid added, no yeast nutrients added, nothing stood between me and the purity of the soil! This wine was fermented in barrel and shows the creamy aromas of vanilla with fruit complexity of pear, banana, pineapple and guava. A superb wine in the summer days we are having.

Flowerpot White Blend 2010 @ R50 per bottle

Bushpig Chenin Blanc Labels Arrived!

Finally the Bushpig Chenin Blanc 2010 is about to get labelled!
Labels finally arrived and look awesome to say the least. This wine is as natural as can be guys!
Made from old bush vines, situated in the awarded Swartland region. The grapes were pressed and juice went straight to barrel. No yeast added, no yeast nutrients added, no acid added, a wine as pure as can be and reflect terroir. Tones of honeysuckle, pear, and pineapple, with a soft oak finish and long lasting aftertaste. A masterpiece to my mind, and I can’t wait to sell it.

Bottling and labelling Selma! Well, easier said than done! Bottling lines are very unpredictable, just as you think everything’s on track, something goes wrong. A pulley broke, causing a hold up on the line. Luckily all operators were well trained on their machines and Torsten “in picture” found a replacement to keep us running while he ran off to the suppliers for a new one! Well done team Mobbot. All 5 pallets are wrapped and ready to be shipped, all in a day’s work as a winemaker
